Scaling and Root Planing

Periodontitis is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gums.  If left untreated, inflammation may cause bone loss around teeth. 

In some cases bone loss may lead to tooth loss.  Scaling and root planing or a “deep cleaning” along with good oral hygiene is often the first step to reduce inflammation.
